習(xí)近平總書記給大陳島老墾荒隊員的后代、當(dāng)?shù)?2名小學(xué)生回信，
General Secretary Xi Jinping wrote a letter back to 12 elementary school students from Dachen Island， descendants of the old land reclamation workers there，
勉勵他們“向爺爺奶奶學(xué)習(xí)”
encouraging them to ＂learn from their grandparents＂
“努力成長為有知識、有品德、有作為的新一代建設(shè)者”。
and ＂strive to become a new generation of builders with knowledge， morality and achievements＂．

1956年，浙江省467名青年志愿者
In 1956， 467 young volunteers from Zhejiang Province
奔赴大陳島參與墾荒建設(shè)，
went to Dachen Island for wasteland reclamation．
用熱血和汗水把一座滿目瘡痍的荒島
With blood and sweat， they turned this desolate island
變成了青春奉獻(xiàn)的熱土，
into a land of youth and dedication，
鑄就了“艱苦創(chuàng)業(yè)、奮發(fā)圖強(qiáng)、無私奉獻(xiàn)、開拓創(chuàng)新”的墾荒精神，
and created the spirit of land reclamation featuring ＂hard work， great efforts， selfless dedication， pioneering and innovative＂，
猶如燈塔指引后人砥礪前行。
guiding future generations to forge ahead like a beacon．
多少年來，在神州大地上，
For many years， the reclamation practices in China，
從南泥灣的大生產(chǎn)運動，
such as Production Campaign in Nanniwan，
到北大荒的開荒拓土；
reclamation in the Great Northern Wilderness，
從浙江臺州的荒島建設(shè)，
construction of desert islands in Taizhou， Zhejiang Province，
再到新疆兵團(tuán)的農(nóng)墾實踐……
and the agricultural reclamation in Xinjiang Corps
無不在白手起家、苦干實干中創(chuàng)造業(yè)績，
are all examples demonstrating that land reclamation workers have made achievements from scratch through their hard work．
墾荒隊員到“最艱苦的地方去”，
In the areas where conditions are toughest，
憑一腔熱血，信念不移，獻(xiàn)身事業(yè)，
workers， with sheer force of will and conviction， dedicated to reclamation projects
將不可能變?yōu)榭赡埽?/p>
and succeeded in the nearly－impossible mission．
在荒蕪的土地上開墾出了無盡的希望。

如今，年輕一代面對優(yōu)渥的物質(zhì)資源和生活條件，

更不能丟掉老一輩的精神饋贈。
